Phil Shawe
Co-CEO
The TransPerfect/Translations.com family of companies was co-founded by Liz Elting and Phil Shawe in 1992. Today, TransPerfect/Translations.com is the world's largest privately held provider of language and business services, and Elting and Shawe continue to run the company's day-to-day operations. For the past three years in a row, TransPerfect/Translations.com has been named one of the largest privately-held companies by Crain's New York Business. The company has been featured in The New York Times, O, The Oprah Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and USA Today.
The recipient of numerous awards, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Inc. 500 Award, and the Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 Award four times, Shawe has spoken at New York University and Columbia University. Shawe is a member of the Association for a Better New York (ABNY). Prior to his career in the language services industry, Shawe was a Financial Analyst at Chemical Bank and a Global Custody Consultant at Merrill Lynch. Shawe holds an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University's Stern School of Business, and he received his BS from the University of Florida where he triple majored in Finance, Marketing, and Risk Management.
Elizabeth Elting

Elting has received numerous awards for her outstanding entrepreneurship, including Working Woman's Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for Customer Service, the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Inc. 500 Award, and the Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 Award four times. Elting was selected Woman of the Year by American Express and Entrepreneur. Crain's New York Business has ranked TransPerfect as one of the one of the largest privately-held companies as well as one of the largest women-owned companies three years in a row. TransPerfect was also twice named one of the fastest-growing women-owned/led businesses in North America by Entrepreneur and the Women Presidents' Organization.
Elting is profiled in several books including The New York Times bestseller "Succeed by Your Own Terms" (McGraw-Hill), "Leadership Secrets of the World's Most Successful CEOs" (Dearborn Trade Publishing), and "Straight Talk About Starting and Growing Your Business" (McGraw-Hill). Elting lectures regularly at New York University's Stern School of Business, Columbia Business School, and NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners). Elting is an active member of YPO (Young Presidents' Organization) and ABNY (The Association for a Better New York). Elting holds an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University's Stern School of Business and a BA in Modern Languages and Literatures from Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
Roy B. Trujillo
Chief Operating Officer
Chief Operating Officer, Roy B. Trujillo, has been with Translations.com since 1999, bringing with him significant experience in areas related to the needs of the rapidly growing family of companies. Prior to his employment with Translations.com, Trujillo served as President and CEO of Leona's Foods, Inc. During his time there, his efforts were largely responsible for transforming a small regional company into a national supplier of high-quality natural food products. The products developed and manufactured by LFI were sold under company owned brands as well as most of the nation's largest retailer's private label programs. Prior to his time at Leona's Foods, he held various technical and management positions at IBM, SBC Communications, and Chase Investment Services. Trujillo earned an MBA in Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurial Studies at New York University's Stern School of Business, and a BS in Industrial Engineering from New Mexico State University.
Tim Coughlin
Vice President
Tim Coughlin holds responsibility for business development, marketing, and strategic partnerships for Translations.com. Mr. Coughlin joined Translations.com in 2000 as the director of corporate communications, bringing six years of marketing and communications experience to the company. Prior to joining Translations.com, Coughlin held senior account positions with leading marketing and public relations firms, including Edelman Public Relations Worldwide and Burson-Marsteller, where he managed programs for clients including LEXIS-NEXIS, Warner-Lambert, Pfizer, and DiscoveryHealth.com. Coughlin graduated from Davidson College in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
Hans Fenstermacher
Vice President
Hans Fenstermacher joined the company in 2006 when Translations.com merged with ArchiText, the company he founded in 1994. Born in Germany, Fenstermacher speaks six languages. Over his 26-year career in the language and content industries, he has worked as a translator, interpreter, and case study writer, including stints with the International Olympic Committee, Turner Broadcasting, and the US Department of Defense. He has been involved in nearly every aspect of the language services industry, from authoring to cultural adaptation to multilingual delivery. Fenstermacher pioneered the ABREVE® process, a proprietary English content globalization system designed to reduce content volume, improve content usability, and optimize content efficiency. Fenstermacher was Founding Chairman of the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) and is an Associate Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Martha Ferro Geller
Director of Sales
Martha Geller comes to Translations.com with over 20 years of experience in the translation and multicultural communications industries. In her previous position, at GlobalSight, Geller led the the globalization strategy consulting team and sales efforts for the GMS. Prior to that, as head of account services and sales for YAR, a leading multicultural communications agency, she oversaw launches for L.L. Bean in the Japanese market, Apple Computer's iMac, Nike's Olympic Games 23-language website, and Charles Schwab's corporate identity program for the Chinese markets. Geller's experience also includes working with American Express, Ford, 3M, HP, and Disney, while at Berlitz Translation Services and Euramerica, a division of the Ogilvy Group. Geller received a master's degree in translation and conference interpretation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, following completion of coursework in international studies at the Universite de Provence in Aix-en-Provence, France.
Mark Hagerty
Chief Technology Officer
Prior to joining Translations.com in 2003, Mark Hagerty was the Director of Software Development at eTranslate, directing the development of the industry leading GMS technology that was eventually acquired by Translations.com. Prior to that Hagerty worked for 8 years as a senior software engineer and manager at Adobe Systems, Inc. Mr. Hagerty was in charge of merging the internal customer databases and customer support systems when Adobe acquired Aldus in 1994. He was also one of the developers of the Adobe Type-On-Call product and was a key member of the teams that implemented Peoplesoft and SAP internally. Mr. Hagerty has 20 years of software development experience and is responsible for the technology vision and solutions that make Translations.com an industry leader. Mr. Hagerty holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
Martijn Heertje
President, iSP
Martijn Heertje is President of the iSP division of Translations.com. At iSP he was responsible for worldwide operations and finance with locations in Asia and Europe. Today Heertje brings iSP's unique expertise in software localization, engineering, QA testing, and development to Translations.com. Having earlier served as Operations Manager, Project Manager and DTP Specialist, he has over 15 years of experience in the localization industry. After completing high school in Amsterdam, Martijn studied in the United States at Oregon State University (OSU) in Corvallis, and at the University of Amsterdam. Prior to joining iSP in 1991, he served as Marketing Manager and/or CEO of several companies.
Mark Hjerpe
Director of Sales
Before joining Translations.com, Mark Hjerpe was with Bowne & Co. for 5 years where he held various assignments, leading the company's expansion effort in South East Asia, managing the company's operations in India, and opening the Tokyo office of Bowne. Prior to his position at Bowne, Hjerpe was one of the most successful sales executives at TransPerfect Translations where he focused on developing TransPerfect's client base in the financial services and legal industries. Before joining TransPerfect, Hjerpe spent two years as a sales executive at Merrill Corporation, where he was responsible for growing Merrill's market share in Latin America. Hjerpe graduated with a BA in Spanish from Humboldt State University and holds an MA, with Honors, in Latin American Studies from UCSB.
Marc Johnson
Director of Production and General Manager, Oregon
Marc Johnson is the General Manager of LFI's Oregon operations. Johnson joined TerraPacific in 1990 as a Project Manager. In 1995, he became a full-time employee of Hewlett-Packard Company as a Localization Engineer. In 1997, he rejoined the Company (now LFI) as CIO of Oregon operations. Currently, Johnson is responsible for production, profitability, and general operations. Johnson has lived in Asia and Europe and speaks Japanese and French. Johnson holds a BA in Mathematics from the University of California, at Santa Cruz.
Mike McPherson
Director of Client Services
Mike McPherson has been Director of Client Services for Translations.com since joining the firm in February, 2002 following Translations.com's acquisition of Language For Industry Worldwide, where he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Prior to that, McPherson held a similar position at TerraPacific, another language services company, which was acquired by LFI in 1998. McPherson has nearly 13 years experience in the language services industry, including experience earlier in his career as a project manager and technical communicator. Currently, McPherson manages a staff of five account executives as well as various support staff, and is responsible for maintaining and growing strategic accounts such as Hewlett-Packard Company, Philips, Canon, and other international technology firms. McPherson holds a B.S. in Technical Journalism from Oregon State University.
Dan O'Sullivan
Vice President of Sales, EMEA
Dan O'Sullivan has been a senior member of the Translations.com executive team since the company's incorporation in 1999. O'Sullivan came to Translations.com from TransPerfect Translations, where he opened and successfully launched the company's Miami office. His career has been focused on the travel & tourism sector where he has sold and managed some of the largest and most complex projects in the industry for companies such as Royal Caribbean and Hilton International. Currently, O'Sullivan oversees the sales and business development activities for Translations.com in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. O'Sullivan holds a BA in History from Skidmore College and an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida.
Michael Sank
Vice President of Corporate Strategy
Michael Sank joined TransPerfect as a salesperson in 1997 when he opened the Los Angeles office. He subsequently led the company’s global expansion as Vice President of International Operations, during which time he lived in London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Hong Kong, managing all sales and production in Europe and Asia. In his current role, Sank manages partnerships and other strategic ventures as well as M&A activity – including the company’s mergers with Crimson, ArchiText, iSP, Overtaal, Quagnito, and Iverson. Working with incoming management, he has contributed to the integration, employee retention, growth, and overall success of these merger partners within the TransPerfect framework. In 2009 he served as Chairman of the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA). He holds a BA, with Distinction in English, from San Diego State University. |
