United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) is the leading source of information on cerebral palsy and is a pivotal advocate for the rights of persons with any disability. As one of the largest health charities in America, the UCP mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities through an affiliate network.
The United Cerebral Palsy of New York’s Women Who Care Luncheon is a celebration of women who have blazed new paths, broken glass ceilings, and inspired others through their professional and charitable endeavors. TransPerfect President and CEO Liz Elting attended the luncheon at the TransPerfect table along with a group of TransPerfect employees.
The 2009 luncheon was held to honor six extraordinary individuals and raise money to support UCP/NYC programs and services. This year’s main honoree was legendary journalist Dan Rather, with Donna Hanover as the Master of Ceremonies. Specially chosen poems were read by celebrity guests including journalist Paula Zahn and Tony-nominated actress Jennifer Damiano.
This year's 2010 luncheon (the largest to date) honored journalist Ann Curry among a host of others, with Paula Zahn as the Master of Ceremonies. Presentations and awards were announced by over a dozen celebrity guests including journalist Meredith Vieira, actress Cynthia Nixon, actor Jimmy Smits, and Dr. Mehmet Oz.
