Cruise line localizes booking system to support travel agents with Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese-language portals

NEW YORK, Sep 19, 2011 -- Translations.com, the world's largest privately held provider of language services and translation-related technologies, today announced that it helped facilitate globalization for Princess Cruises, one of the best-known cruise lines in the world, serving more than 1 million passengers each year. Princess Cruises is using Translations.com's GlobalLink OneLink solution to localize content on its POLAR Online portal, a booking tool used by travel agents worldwide. Princess Cruises used GlobalLink OneLink to launch its Spanish-language portal and plans to roll out additional offerings in Portuguese and Japanese this year. With the ability to navigate Princess Cruises' in-house reservation system in their own languages, travel agents can better serve the needs of customers, increasing global sales for the cruise line.
As the iconic cruise line that taught American travelers about at-sea vacations via the 1970s television show "The Love Boat," Princess Cruises has long enjoyed a market-leading position. The company offers more than 100 different itineraries with 350 ports of call around the world, and Princess Cruises recognized an opportunity for growth among international travelers. In an effort to better reach European, South American, and Asian customers, the company sought a solution to streamline multilingual content creation.
"Global sales are an important aspect of our business, so we wanted to ensure we were delivering the best possible booking experience to agents around the world," said Jan Swartz, executive vice president of sales at Princess Cruises. "Translations.com's OneLink is enabling us to move forward quickly with this goal of adding multi-language capability to our award-winning booking engine."
"The mission of Princess Cruises is to help travelers 'escape completely,' and we're pleased to help the company reach that goal by opening its booking process to more travel agents, in more languages and in more countries than ever before," said Liz Elting, co-CEO of Translations.com. "With GlobalLink OneLink automating the launch and maintenance of its multilingual reservation portals, Princess Cruises can focus on attracting more guests to enjoy vacations at sea."
