Astoria Software Opens Enterprise-Level XML Content Management to Mac OS X

“Think Different” Meets “TransPerfect” As The World’s Most Innovative End-User Environment Links With The Industry’s First Enterprise-Wide XML Component Content Management System

SAN FRANCISCO, March 9, 2012 – Astoria Software, a division of TransPerfect, today announced that the next release of its market-leading Astoria Content Management solution will embrace the Apple platform. End-users running Mac OS X version 10.6 (also called “Mac OS X Snow Leopard”) will be able to run the Astoria 6.0 Workbench and oXygen Editor Bridge, linking the world’s most advanced operating system with the world’s best enterprise-wide XML component content management system. The preview release of Astoria 6.0 is already available and under active testing by select customers.

Run Anywhere with Astoria 6.0

The Astoria 6.0 architecture opens the door for users to do their work on the platform best suited to their needs. The Astoria Workbench, an all-in-one console for authoring, managing and publishing content, is an Eclipse application. This means that Workbench inherits all of the extensibility and portability that makes Eclipse the most popular open-source software development environment in use today.

Another Astoria module, the Editor Bridge, is built entirely in portable Java. An Editor Bridge is much more than the file-based editor “connectors” available in a typical XML content management solution. The pure-Java Astoria Editor Bridge allows a user running an Astoria-integrated editor, such as oXygen, to perform eighteen file- and element-based operations all from the Editor’s user interface. The choice of Java ensures that all Astoria Editor Bridges run on any platform supported by the editor’s vendor.

Underpinning both the Astoria Workbench and Editor Bridge is the communication architecture. Astoria 6.0 uses SSL-encrypted HTTP (i.e., “HTTPS”) to exchange messages and data between Astoria’s server-side modules and either the Workbench or Editor Bridge. Since HTTPS support is both ubiquitous and secure, there are an almost uncountable number of places and platforms where users can perform productive work using Astoria 6.0.

The First Enterprise-wide XML CMS Links to the World’s Most Productive Platform for Users

With the announcement of support for Apple Mac OS X, Astoria Software combines the world’s first Enterprise solution for XML Component Content Management -- and the first to deliver both an Enterprise-wide On-Demand and an On-Premises solution -- with the ultra-cool, ultra-productive capabilities of an Apple platform. “You might say that ‘SaaS’ just got sassy,” said Michael Rosinski, President and CEO of Astoria Software. “Astoria is the preeminent SaaS/on-demand platform for XML content management, and Mac OS X is arguably the most productive platform for users. Linking the two delivers the top-line and bottom-line revenue benefits of structured content development that make business leaders happy while giving users the flexibility to choose where and on what platforms they build that content.”
